This small ensuite was first built in 2000 and had a few minor issues with cracked tiles. The client wished to modernise their bathroom fittings and retile at the same time. They decided to keep the cabinets (to relaminate later) and basin, as the ensuite size severely constrained options.
Key considerations were working in an apartment building: setting up safe working areas, managing onsite waste, and minimising disruption to the client while the project was in progess.
The client is very happy with the outcome , especially the raised height of the shower.
2 Booragoon Skirting Height Ensuite Renovation
The client wanted to renovate the ensuite in their older house because of cracked tiles on the floor of the shower. After some discussion, they decided on skirting height tiling and changing to a mixer shower tap in the process.
After some investigation of the cracked floor, I discovered that the cracked tile and long-term water damage had dissolved the substrate and allowed ingress of compacted roots and soil.
Other than the removal of the roots and replacement of the substrate, the rest of the renovation was relatively straight-forward.
3 Myaree Main Floor Renovation
The clients approached me as they wished to retile their main floor. After some discussion, the clients selected these 600×600 stone tiles.
I removed the old tiles with a heavy-duty jackhammer, repaired the substrate where required, formatted, making sure to leave expansion joints.
One of the biggest challenges of tiling a large area is formatting the tile set-out to make sure there are no small pieces anywhere. In this case the house was laid out along a single hallway with multiple bends for extra complexity.
The major issue with a large floor area is ensure there are sufficient silicone expansion joints and breaks in tiling. Failure to get this right can lead to tiles cracking and buckling due to movement in the foundation.
